Sorting for Sustainability

New waste-sorting routines at Myfab Lund / Lund Nano Lab make it easier for users to dispose of materials correctly, helping to reduce the lab’s environmental footprint. This is part of a broader effort to transform the lab into a green facility.

Cleanrooms and nanofabrication labs consume large amounts of energy due to strict climate control and chemical use. The green lab initiative aims to reduce this impact by optimizing lab routines, minimizing unnecessary use of consumables, recycling where possible, and improving user behavior.

Users  can now sort uncontaminated lab waste into dedicated bins:

Red – General unsortable waste
Yellow – Soft plastic packaging
Blue – Disposable clothing (nitrile gloves, facemasks, shoe covers)
Green – Hard plastics (wafer boxes, pipette boxes)

Clear signage and infographics are placed at all stations to support correct sorting. By recycling materials that would otherwise go to incineration, our lab community is helping build a more sustainable research environment.
