This will strengthen capacity, expand infrastructure, and enhance support for cutting-edge research and innovation.
Myfab, Sweden’s national research infrastructure for micro- and nanofabrication, will use the funds during 2026–2027 to prepare for future clusters in quantum technology, semiconductors, and life science. Planned upgrades include advanced solutions for material design, 3D microfabrication, precise semiconductor growth monitoring, and technologies for heterogeneous integration and chip packaging. These improvements will also benefit other research fields and user groups.
This initiative complements Myfab’s ongoing operations grant and will be implemented in close collaboration with researchers planning excellence cluster applications, ensuring access to state-of-the-art instruments, processes, and expert support.
The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) will in 2026 start funding excellence clusters for ground-breaking technology to secure world-class research quality and long-term impact, working closely together with Vinnova to create synergies across the agencies´ programs. These clusters will bring together leading expertise, advanced infrastructure, and industry collaboration to achieve breakthroughs in strategically important areas.
The goal is to ensure world-class research quality, long-term impact, and technological sovereignty, while fostering synergies between academia and industry to accelerate innovation and maintain Sweden’s position at the forefront of critical technologies. By reinforcing Myfab’s infrastructure, Sweden strengthens its ability to deliver pioneering research and maintain competitiveness in strategic technology areas.
