Nordic Nanolab meeting reaches record-high attendance

Thomas Swahn, Myfab, welcomes to Uppsala.

From 1–3 June, Myfab Uppsala hosted the Nordic Nanolab User Meeting (NNUM) and the Nordic Nanolab Technician Network (NNTN). Around 300 researchers, engineers and technicians from across the Nordic region took part, sharing knowledge and strengthening collaboration in micro- and nanofabrication

The user meeting is held every second year within the Nordic Nanolab Network (NNN), which brings together national nanotechnology infrastructures across the Nordic countries. Hosting rotates between the countries, and in 2026 it was Sweden’s turn, with Myfab Uppsala as host.

“Bringing together users and experts from across the Nordic region in this way is essential for developing both our infrastructure and our community. The strong engagement we’ve seen this year highlights the value of close collaboration in advancing nanotechnology,” says Stefan Nygren, Head of Myfab Uppsala.

The programme featured presentations at both introductory and advanced levels, as well as poster sessions, networking opportunities and guided lab tours. In parallel, the NNTN meeting focused on cleanroom operations, process development and user support across the Nordic facilities.
Program: NNUM & NNTN 2026

Poster Competition Prize

A highlight of the event was the poster exhibition, where participants presented their research. Winners of this year poster competition was;

  • Janna Wilhelmsen, Linköping University: Optical anisotropy of vapour phase polymerised PEDOT thin films enables negative permittivity and resonances in the visible spectrum
  • Nuria Alcalde-Herraiz, Chalmers: Experimental test for hydrodynamic transport of the strange metal phase of YBa_2Cu_3O_7-sigma
  • Nicholas Ryan Mayner, KTH:  Towards InAs/GaSb Type-II Superlattice Growth by MOCVD

Especially thanks to

Myfab Uppsala with staff for hosting the meeting and the Expert Group Leaders for developing and assembling the program:
Karin Hedsten – Chalmers
Tomas Nyberg – Uppsala University
Jonas Michael-Lindhard, Karen Birkelund – DTU Nanolab

The meeting serves as a key platform for knowledge exchange and coordination, helping to further develop the shared Nordic infrastructure and strengthen links between academia and industry.

The next Nordic Nanolab User Meeting, scheduled for 2028, was announced during the event and will be hosted by DTU Nanolab in Denmark.
